Ephemeral Beauty of Flowers Made Eternal In Acrylic Paintings by Bas Meeuws

Bas Meeuws, a young artist from Netherlands, composes surrealistic flower still lifes, blending the style of the seventeenth century seamlessly with the modern day digital realm.

His photographs are textural in nature, the artist building up the tempo of layers to portray the complexity of the flowers in full bloom, paying attention to each of its petals and leaves. While the beauty of flowers is fleeting in nature, their allure only awaiting to fade within a short span of time, Meeuws aims to preserve their magnificence through his contemporary pieces. For the artist, flowers have been potent weapons of nature since the beginning of time, their vibrant hues, their sweet scent and their myriad variety of shapes drawing in insects and bees and even Meeuws, making these flowers the central theme of his works. He wishes to make his audience feel the same way when they see his creations as they view flowers in real life.

The photographer, armed with his lens, takes several photographs of the same flower, using varying exposure but the same light. He then weaves multiple elements together, stitching them seamlessly to form one coherent piece.
