Basad is an abbreviation which originally comes from Aramaic. Translated into modern Hebrew, the abbreviation is besiyata deshmaya, meaning ‘With G-d’s Help’. It is a custom of Jewish people to write this abbreviation in the upper right-hand corners of documents as a statement of faith. This is to reflect that even the most mundane of everyday tasks should serve G-d, or at least mention him, and thus be inspired with holiness.
