I got two questions regarding Reeves' Batman: Do you think Harvey should've been the anti-corrupt antagonist that Riddlers seems to be or are you like me hoping that it twists around and the Riddler 'accidentally' creates Two-face? And do you think Harvey is seemingly excluded from this film because his last film appearance was alongside Joker, a character Reeves' wanted to stay away from?
My HOPE is that Harvey is being saved so he can be the focal point of his own movie rather than just being a secondary character and pawn in some other villain’s scheme. But I also don’t trust anybody to take the character seriously enough to make that happen. I remember when that was supposed to be the plan for Nolan’s “Batman Begins” sequels, that Part 2 would be the fall of Harvey and Part 3 would be the rise of Two-Face. Like, yeah, the Joker would still be involved, but at least he’d have his own movie!
Obviously, no one knows what Reeves’ plans are, assuming this gets a sequel (and it probably will, it’s Batman, it’ll be successful enough). Any plans he has are subject to change, and I’ve been burned (ha) too many times by writer treating Harvey as an afterthought to expect much.
If I could put my hopes in anything at this point, it’s that the rumors are true and that the success of Joker has led to greedy, cynical execs at WB wanting MORE VILLAIN MOVIES ALL THE VILLAINS WE OWN, which would mean a nonzero possibility of there actually being a Two-Face movie. Because as we handful of fans know well, he’s got enough of an arc to support being the focal point of his own movie. They wouldn’t even have to construct an entire new tragic background of loneliness and mental illness to make it work as an unrecognizable version of the character, cough cough Joker.
