Getting down to the end of the basement. It's interesting what you find hidden away and stored in the floor joists. The last basement find...though it's not a find, just a goodbye. I bought this Zenith Advanced System 3 TV in late 1991/early 1992. It was state of the art...S-video, rear speaker enabled, 4 input, 27", full remote control and upgraded MTS stereo speakers. It cost a grand and it weighed a ton. It's been in the basement only seeing very limited used since 2006...and I would love to keep it. BUT IT'S A DINOSAUR...so I'm dating goodbye, but keeping this pic as my memory. Just a couple of the MANY SC Poultry Festival and Radio Shack shirts I found packed away. These are some of the happiest times of my life. The purple STAFF shirt was from the first year I was living in Aiken and not B&L. I helped with coordinating the stages and the entertainment schedule that year. I had an absolute blast and I think this was the year that I hung out with the Root Doctors at the beer tent a little too late into the night. This Radio Shack polo shirt was my official shirt at the 1994 convention in Panama City. It was my first convention, and helped me understand the business so much more. Getting down to the last pieces I've reclaimed from my basement. My Grandmother's cigarette case. You can barely see in the pics the HBW engraving on this brass case, but the wavy checkered pattern is definitely visible. I had been obsessed with the pattern on it when I was very young, and when we were clearing out some of my grandmother's things and moving to the smaller house, my mother gave it to me. I remember her giving it to me, but that was it and it honestly didn't really cross my mind again. Fast forward 35 years or so and I found it wrapped in a box that also contained Dungeons & Dragons books and a report on the novel Lord Of The Flies...but it's still in perfect shape and still smells slightly like Pall Malls. Cufflinks given to me by Rob sometime around 7/8 years ago. They are beautiful, and I put them away so I wouldn't lose them. Basically since then I've been looking for them. I had given up...but as I was putting some items into a bag to gift to someone, I saw a small random box in the bottom of the large tattered liquor box I had almost tossed in the recycling without looking at. And there they were. Basement finds for today. I'm finishing the last of the shelves...so almost the last finds. A Delco Light Exide glass battery jar from my great grandparents home in Prosperity, SC. This was what people in more rural areas had to provide electric light to their homes in the early 1900's. I have one of the 12 they used to power lights in the home until the early 1920's. At one point, there was also a glass lid that fit the top...but it went long ago. Amazing this survived considering I kept it in my college dorm room, and filed it with beer tabs...LOTS OF BEER TABS. My ESSO piggy bank. This is probably from the 1950's or early 60's. I've had it my entire life, and used it to save my change to buy comics well into my teens. My 'leatherette' soft side Coca-Cola cooler. This went to so many skate contests and demos in my teens. I think this was from the 1950's and was found when clearing out my grandfather's dry goods store in Newberry, SC. My penny gumball lamp. My grandfather was a serial entrepreneur, and one of his businesses was gumball and prize machines in the late 60's, early 70's. This is one of three that my father made into lamps in the late 1970's for myself, @ruffian925 and @rrreed2014. I think one was red, one blue, and maybe gold? (What colors were yours Ian and Becca?) He was very careful to make sure that they still worked as gumball machines when he made them into the lamp. I removed the lamp rod and socket years ago when the wiring failed. Hopefully I'll restore the lamp function at some point. These are last to be packed because they honestly are some of my most prized possessions. Each one has a story and emotions attached to them. When I started packing I didn't have any idea how much I had saved from my childhood, but I'm very glad I did. Each find has made me realize how lucky I was to grow up in the time I did.
