my Novella November tbr pile 🧡
so I've just pulled every book off my shelves that's 200 pages or less (and To Clutch a Razor because I've got it from the library right now lol)
i think my plan for Novella November will be to just grab one of these whenever I have to take the bus somewhere. I've got a lot of library books at the moment but I'm hoping these can fill in when I can't listen to my audiobooks
are any of these on your TBR? 👀
it kind of shocks me how different the level of attention Compound Fracture got compared to AJW's other books. obviously GoodReads ratings aren't everything but for CF to only have 6.5k almost a year after its release is sort of depressing
it's such a good book. it tackles such big topics and handles them with great care and finesse. Miles's journey accepting his autism is brutal and beautiful. the addressing of class warfare in a small town. the exploration of West Virginia's history. the way it tackles being queer in a small town. you can tell that this was a book coming straight from AJW's soul and he pulled it off so cleverly - he doesn't shy away from the rough stuff but he also doesn't rush through the parts that feed your soul, that give you hope
when i first read it last November, I told people to pick it up if they were despairing about Trump. I am repeating that request now: if you are feeling beaten down and hopeless about how the US gets through the next 3.5 years, pick up Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White and let yourself be reminded about how we really get through this shit
Read in June 2026
look at all these books I read 😱 i had so much fun reading this month, especially diving into the queer books on my TBR. I think my favourites were Waiting on a Friend by Natalie Adler and just the joy of discovering Makana Yamamoto's writing 🥰
feel free to ask about any of these! i'm so down to chat :3

thank goodness for Big W's broad selection and affordable prices. i got the Dream Harbour books in a box set and only paid $9 for each book, compared to the $23 each the book shops have been asking 😂 plus those beautiful tall ones down the bottom that were all half off :3 this should keep me very busy for a while
most excited for Eileen by Ottessa Moshfegh and Brigid by Kim Curran <3
