Creator: Bashir Makhoul | 1999 "As a Palestinian the discourse of identity is one that the individual is continually called to engage with as a consequence of being from a minority population. The series of photographs question the rhetoric of identity discourses. Blood lines are essential to identifying ‘who I am’ and ‘where I am from’, while blood is often invoked as a symbol of sacrifice in nationalism. What Makhoul’s works serve to do is to through his reproductions and the patterned form is to question and lay bare the idea of essentialisms. "
