ajay’s parents were always VERY strict with her as a child. she was bound to strict household rules and curfews, leaving her unable to really be a kid and experience life how it SHOULD’VE been when you’re young. things like no going out with friends, no sneaking around, ANYTHING that would make the family look bad in any light whatsoever. this paired with them never paying much attention to her and always focusing on their work quickly lead her to become more rebellious- always little things, but ENOUGH to be seen as the black sheep of the family. finding out her family was involved in war profiteering was the final straw, leading her to backlash against them to a point she left the family household with a huge argument. It was worse with her parents HATING being spoken back to, and she hasn’t spoken to them since the day that she left. ajay also changed her last name from the family name to che to further show how much she wanted to distance herself and have nothing to do with them.
the reason she’s so outgoing and almost childish when she gets older is because she’s finally left that environment, and she’s finally allowed to do what she wants. there’s still a lot of self doubt and it would’ve taken a few months for her to really get comfortable around the other people in the games, to her the people she’s around all the time now are more family to her- especially the people she met working in the humanitarian group and the other legends.
