2nd Day of Benzoyl Peroxide Treatment and Other Acne Rambles
Not many people know this, but I suffer from a mild form of acne. It doesn’t affect my daily life as much as it used to (especially before I went gluten-free), but every morning and evening I take forever to get ready and get out of the house or to bed, because my skin keeps breaking out and I simply can’t find a way to make those little pimple-suckers go away. I even wash my face twice a day, and sure some of them get better, but I always have three or more pimples on my face at a time.
This has resulted in me feeling the need to wear makeup each and every day, just to give myself the illusion of clear skin (and so that others wouldn’t notice my acne).
I mostly get them on my forehead and a few near my nose and on my chin too, and they’ve cleared a lot since I started using products with salicylic acid in them. My forehead actually started to look sort of normal, despite of the scars that still linger (which are from me being an impatient asshole and popping them because there were simply so many -_-‘)
But then I started to get some really painful ones on my chest, neck and on my cheeks. Mind you, they weren’t covering my cheeks, chest or neck, but there were a few there. And they were just soo painful! I never got painful pimples before, but I continued on with the salicylic acid treatment. This of course did not help at all, they didn’t get smaller, they weren’t surfacing, so I went to the pharmacy and bought a 5% benzoyl peroxide gel (because the 2,5% solution does not exist here). I’m on day 2 of using this and I can already see a difference. The pimples don’t hurt anymore (except for two on my right cheek, but they look so less worse than before), and they’re all less red than before I started the treatment.
Sure my skin has gotten a little dry, and in the evening when I go to bed my face gets all warm where I put on the gel, but it’s nothing too serious. And I haven’t had problems with bleaching either, especially since I only put the cream directly on my pimples, wait 5-10 minutes for it to dry and then I use an oil-free moisturizer in my entire face. (I do own a paraben-, perfume- and dye-/colouring-free sunscreen with an SPF of 30, but I’m only going to use this if there is any sun or of the dryness of my skin gets too much for me to handle) After applying the moisturizer I wait at least one hour before I go to bed, in order to prevent my pillow from bleaching.
I haven’t had to wear makeup on top of it yet, but as it is now, I’m pretty sure it won’t be a huge problem. I’m hoping that this will clear out my skin in a couple of weeks :)
I haven’t taken a picture of me before the treatment, but that’s mostly because I’m too ashamed to look at my skin right now. I know a lot of people have it worse than me, but my skin has been like this ever since I was 14/15/16 (I’m not entirely sure anymore). I don’t think I’ve had a day with clear skin for four or five years now. Hopefully you’ll understand my frustration about this and how happy I am that benzoyl peroxide is actually working :)
