“Factory Fatality Unsolved By Jury,” Toronto Star. November 21, 1941. Page 8. ---- Worker Scalded to Death - Safeguards Recommended in Verdict ---- Oakville, Nov. 21. - A jury investigating the death of William Richards, 48, who died of third-degree burns following immersion in a vat of scalding water at the Oakville Basket Company’s plant, Nov. 14, decided that no explanation could be found to account for the accident.
Edward Burill, plant superintendent, said Richards had apparently fallen into a vat used to debark logs, but that his employment gave him no reason to be in that part of the plant.
The jury recommended that a second guard rail be erected 12 inches from the ground and that employees be compelled to remain in their own departments.
