Dame en este reino refugio (Give me shelter in this kingdom)
Bast doesn't fear the dark, as she can see as clearly in it's depths as she can see when the sun is shining bright. But she's afraid for once, because when she looks into the darkness she cannot see anything but the darken silhouettes of houses. Once comforting and kind when graced by the morning sun now looming and and grim.
She walks forward, but she keeps walking. There is no Justice, who's tall broad shoulders shielded her from harm and hatred. There was no tall, broad, spacey smelling Star, who held her and was always by her side. She was alone and she could not see anything she could not hear, she could not speak.
And then she couldn't move. She couldn't move or scream, she was solitary. She felt like something small, insignificant. Like an outlet on the wall, only to be interacted with and not the other way around.
She does not realize she's screaming until Star has her locked up in his arms, her kingdom.
«It's alright you're awake. Are you okay?» She can only shake her head, her hands are shaking too bad to sign and she clings to him like a life line. Her teeth sink into his shoulder as he gently holds her, petting her bed hair down.
She finds refuge in him, he signs to her when she looks up from counting the sun spots across his skin. He tells her about his favorite color («Cats are colorblind right?» «That's dogs!!.»)
Star takes care of her, for him it's been a long time since he's cared ab out anyone but his mother. A long time since he found someone likable enough to put up with them. The way she looks at him, she trusts him, she loves him.
And he's sure he loves her too, but when his hands go to make the signs his hands shake and he never really gets it right. But he knows it's okay because she understands, she doesn't have to speak in broken English to tell him she loves his entire being. So he doesn't have to wear his aids with her, and he's comfortable and he's alright.
So when Bast falls asleep against his chest (Covered in half hearted bite marks when she lapses back into panic or shock) he doesn't move her. He holds her gently, watching over her before he's lulled back into sleep. With her near he's in his kingdom of peace and tranquility.
In their dreams, if they dream of each other, of some odd quiet kingdom who's silence is only broken up by laughter such, it must be only some kind coincidence.
