@protectxthem gets the feelsy thread.
The call that comes isn't from Babs. It isn't from Jim, Chloe, Clark, Lois or any of their mutual friends. No, it comes from Harvey Bullock, Jim Gordon's Lieutenant. "Kid, it's Barbara. It's bad. She's at Gotham General." Blunt and to the point, just like the Lieutenant.
It's at the hospital where the situation was explained by Renee Montoya in hushed, low tones, her hand never straying from her holster outside of Barbara's hospital room. The Joker had come to Barbara's apartment just as she was getting ready to head to Pilates. It didn't happen in the field. It was revenge for Jim Gordon's part in putting Joker in the Asylum. Barbara had been shot, grievously so, and catapulted back into into the glass coffee table. The doctors weren't sure of her quality of life going forward, it all depended on if she woke up from surgery. Oh, and Jim was also missing. They were working on that.
It's not until nearly two days later that Barbara starts to stir. Green eyes blink open, and focus on the white celling above her and her expression crinkles in confusion. Why...was she here? The last thing she remembered was shooting a banter-filled text back to Oliver as she gathered her Pilates equipment before heading to the gym. There had been a knock at the door and then...Barbara's eyes widened as she started, trying to push herself into a sitting position--and promptly swore, loudly as the pain rippled through her abdomen.
