College Hall

Today, in my quest to explore at least two new places each week, I ventured into College Hall looking for a restroom. It was...an adventure

I opted for the accessible entrance, which is all the way around the back of the building. It’s a little out of the way, but in kind of a cute outdoor space. The door led into a hallway flanked with classrooms, which sounded like they had little kids in them. Around the corner, the hallway had three steps up, passes the front lobby, and goes up another three steps. Consequentially, if you can’t do stairs at all, the west entrance only gets you to rooms CH133, CH135, CH137, and CH141, which house journalism related things.

After I made it up the steps, I found the bathroom, which is gender neutral, and sort of accessible. It’s clearly a very old building, but of you were looking for somewhere quiet, something told me I was the first person to use this bathroom in at least a day. And by something, I mean spiders hanging out in inconvenient places, such as the back of the door, and ON THE ROLL OF TOILET PAPER. I removed both, but make no promises about the spider-free condition of this bathroom if you choose to use it.

After my adventure, I poked around the wwu website, since there is apparently an accessible bathroom on the second floor, so you’d think there’s be a way to get up there that doesn’t involve stairs. It lists the building as having an additional entrance on the Northeast corner, as well as a “lift” to the upper levels. I wondered if lift meant something distinct from an elevator, or if the writer was just British. I found this:

“Office locations where chairlift keys can be obtained during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday) are indicated on signs posted on each chairlift, or from University Police (Public Safety and Parking Building), open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. [phone], WA Relay: 711″

…which sounds really inconvenient. I will investigate further next time.

Third floor, Haggard Hall

Decided to do some exploring today, and wound up on the third floor of haggard. It appears to consist entirely of two lecture halls (HH345 & HH353), bathrooms, and a really nice studying space (HH350, right where you get off the elevator) The other half of the floor lies behind doors marked ‘staff only’ 350 is definitely a good study room; nice light, big desks, very quiet. Bathrooms were mediocre; some stalls missing coat hooks, one of the lights buzzes.
