Sylvia Precht, BAX Alum
During my formative years, BAX was a haven. It inspired creation, it challenged self-perception, and it fostered connections with other young women. My fellow dancers came from diverse neighborhoods, races, and economic classes. Along with instructors like Helen and Rachel, my fellow dancers taught me how to become a confident woman comfortable with her own body. I especially attribute the specialness of the place to Maya, my closest friend who lived and breathed dance. She now works here at BAX and I cannot think of anyone who more perfectly embodies its values. She will be there to help other young men and women develop emotionally, socially, and spatially like those that were there before us.
