Great start! So far.
It’s been a great start to my 4th year of college and I hope the blessings continue coming through. It’s been tough the past few weeks trying to get back into a routine with school and work, but it’s been a good tough.
Classes started on Sept. 21 and trying to get into my waitlisted classes was a struggle, I didn’t get all of them but I’ll do with whatever I can get. Along with school starting I’ve also started training at my new job as a Swim Instructor and returned to my other job as a Cashier on the campus’ dining hall.
I’ve been a lifeguard and swim instructor since 2012, but training at this new company as a swim instructor is definitely more difficult than what I’m used to. I can’t really say much on how they run things as it’s “confidential” but let’s just say that they’re known to be the best for a ton of good reasons. I’m already loving it there, with the benefits I get and how welcoming the rest of the company is to new hires. I literally look forward to work every day, I didn’t realize how much I miss working with kids and being able to see how happy their parents get when they get to watch their child’s progress overtime. Did I mention we also get bonuses and cool shit? When I found out about this after my interview, you know for damn sure I was going to work my ass off trying to impress them in hopes that they will want to keep me and make me an official employee. [ I say that in all honestly, cause trainees be getting fired left and right for sucking. ] The job may not seem so serious to others, but trust it’s not the easiest. Not saying that you need to be experienced in swimming, but when you’re working you are liable for the students’ safety and be able to deal with kids who are stubborn, kids who are cryers, kids who love to scream in your ear, kids who never want to listen to you, etc.. With that said, not once can you get mad or frown, I mean you can, but know that you’re being evaluated and your families might not want to come back to you as an instructor.
On the other hand, my other job on campus is pretty chill. I greet people coming in and going out, stock what needs to be stocked, transact whatever transaction needs to be transacted for people to go upstairs and eat. I can only work so many hours as a part-time employee so 2 jobs are necessary for me since I’m pretty much all on my own now and don’t receive financial aid from school or parents.
Onto the more fun stuff away from work (cause I have fun at work too), I saw Tinashe and R.L. Grime in concert on my college campus and had another 21st birthday celebration with my girls, Bad&Bougie. BOTH WERE LIT AF. One of my oldest best friends turned a year older at Disneyland WOOP WOOP. [ Shoutout to Yajo! We need more of those Cove Bar Chocolate shots. ] And congrats to Barkada’s Bayan-E Board on their First General Meeting, I’m honored to have been chosen to MC for ya’ll!
Good luck to everyone back in school!
Stay safe and prayers to everyone around the world who has passed may you RIP and to those who have lost someone dear to them. I know a lot of people from back home who are affected by the recent shooting in Vegas and by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.
