… Dinge, die machen mich irgendwie nachdenklich-melancholisch. Radio segment on the “pink tax” & why women pay more for the same product than men

 - and the reporter’s conclusion seriously is “I can’t find any explanation for this” (really? Can I interest you in the concept of sexism?) and “well I guess women just have to be less gullible and buy stuff made for men”.

How about a) we stop gendering products according to their color, fragrance, etc. alltogether and b) stop penalizing people who like traditionally “feminine” products instead of telling them to just adapt their preferences and suck it up?

(The most painful part was when one of the interviewed women was like “I wanted to have some blouses ironed the other day and they couldn’t explain to me why that was more expensive than ironing men’s shirts, so I took them home and just did it myself”. 4000% sure that noone would ask a man to just iron his own shirts to make up for uneven pricing.)

Interestingly, the economist they interviewed later seemed to have no problem finding an explanation, because, surprise, gendering products and artificially creating two pools of customers makes it easier to tell people that they are buying a super special product with emtional value for which they should pay more.
