Today’s guest was film director #Taketoshi Sado! We talked about “Perfume ‘Cold Sleep’ -25 years Document-” (opening Friday, May 15) and documentary filmmaking, among many other topics!
Director Sado met the three (members) around the time they got a hit with “Polyrhythm.” At that time, Sado was working at NHK.
He was in charge of Pop Jam and was also involved with Perfume. On February 26, 2020, they learned the event was canceled just one minute before arriving at Tokyo Dome.
The total amount of footage filmed was about 50 terabytes.
The interviewer was Director Sado himself; he interviewed the members for over two hours, and A-chan for more than three hours.
He didn’t know about the “cold sleep” concept, so the content of the filming changed as a result.
Director Sado said that when he first met them in 2007, he had never encountered an artist like them; their personalities haven’t changed since then—they were friendly and approachable.
Filming started at Coachella in 2019. The 2020 event was supposed to be the culmination they would capture on film.
