I don't disagree. there's something complicated the favourite does with presenting anne as a sexual being, which tangles up with the grossness factor. but in terms of a male monarch I think of the madness of king george, which I've only seen on stage, but in the production I saw his body was shown as failing him and often in a gross light

the favourite is clearly far from the only offender to make sexual desire in older women seem either perverse or comical, or so disgusting it’s funny, and esp given it features sex between women, it’s just a trend i’ve noticed that it still seems we’re meant to see ageing women who still desire sex as something laughable
