This probably seems like a really minor problem, and, in all fairness, it kinda is. But Jane Eyre was one of my favorite books in high school and is still one of my top rankers, and I just got done watching BBC’s 2006 version of Jane Eyre, and of all the stuff that got taken out of moved around in an actually pretty good dramatization, there is just one thing that got changed that is driving me nuts. In the adaptation, Jane said that St. John wanted to take her to Africa! Africa! Not that I have anything against Africa in a general sense, but St. John wanted to take her to India! That’s why he wanted her to learn what was then called Hindustani! And it’s such a small detail, but I think that’s why it’s bothering me-- it is a small detail. There was no reason that they should have changed it because it’s not like it helped them condense a conversation or a plot point. It served them no purpose to change it; they just did. And when I said all this to my viewing companions, they were just all, “It was probably just a mistake. It’s not a big deal!” And they just weren't getting it, no matter what I said, which only made it worse. So, now, you all out on the internet get to hear it. Yeah. Maybe one of you all agree with me. If you do, let me know. Anyway, I think I’m done now. Thanks for listening.
