You hopped into your car and drove to Rafe's place almost as soon as he sent you the picture with your stuff that was still there. You expected to see anything—maybe the boxes standing stacked on top of each other near the porch, maybe even far away on the driveway with no signs of Rafe anywhere near, like because he had already crossed you out of his heart and mind. But you almost couldn’t believe your eyes when you opened the door of your car and saw him yelling and kicking your stuff, almost everything scattered around on the grass with half the things probably broken.
You closed the door, barely able to speak when you stepped closer. “Rafe? Is that my stuff?” Your voice was almost a whisper, but it was enough for his head to whip towards you like he was not expecting you to come so quickly or not expecting to see you at all.
He was breathing heavily, sweat glistening on his face as if he had run a mile, while his angry eyes snapped towards your face, and it felt like something inside you broke from that look alone.
He kicked something near his leg again. “Yeah. Just get your shit and get the fuck away from here.” He waved you off like something annoying, something he didn’t want to have to deal with. You swallowed a lump in your throat, fighting back tears that were already stinging your eyes.
It was nothing like Rafe you got used to, nothing like the guy who never raised his voice at you before. But you must’ve heard this type of reaction after what you’ve done and after you did one thing he asked you not to—you lied.
“Rafe, I know you’re really having a hard time—”
The words made him turn around instantly, whatever thing of yours he had in his hand was thrown carelessly on top of the torn-out box, and he ran towards you, pointing an accusing finger at your face. “Oh yeah? Of course you do, because it is your fault, you hear me? You did this.”
"Well, I thought I could help you.” You mumbled before reaching into the pocket of your shorts. Your ring. His ring—the one that he got from his mom, the one that he proposed to you with. You held it in between your fingers, feeling the way your hand trembled. “It costs a lot, right?”
Rafe’s eyes narrowed at your words. He scoffed with that weird, dismissive smile.
“Take it. It’s yours.”
“It's worth three years of your salary.”
“Well, you could sell it.”
“I don’t want it. I gave it to you.”
You took a second before answering. He was so close. He was looking at you with nothing but anger in his eyes, and even if it was your fault, it didn’t hurt any less.
“Yeah. When we were together. When you proposed.” You whispered, pushing it towards him again. Rafe didn’t even look at the ring, too focused on your face. “It’s your family’s. I don’t need it. It’s—it’s not for me anymore.”
You cleared your throat, breaking the eye contact and focusing somewhere lower. Your other hand grabbed his when Rafe didn’t move to do anything else, and you shoved the ring in his hold. Your hand lingered on his longer than necessary, and you hated how it made you feel. How much you missed his touch, his presence.
You turned away, walking back to your car, hearing him mumbling something under his breath, huffing like he was already too riled up.
“You forgot your shit.”
You stopped in your tracks, your vision already blurring with tears. You hesitated, but having no other choice, still went back to fall on your knees on the ground and gather everything that was scattered in front of the house. Rafe didn't disappear the way you expected—you felt his presence behind your back, knew that he was probably standing with his hands on his hips like he did every time he was pissed.
You grabbed the flattened box that used to be filled with your clothes, taking something from the pile nearby and trying to put it in only to realize that the bottom was completely destroyed. It fell right through there and fell back on the damp grass.
Your hands started shaking, and you got more and more agitated, more mad at the situation that Rafe didn’t even hesitate to kick and throw everything like you meant nothing anymore. You tossed some random decorative statue to the side, not caring if it broke or was left there. Why the hell were you even there? Why did you embarrass yourself even more in front of him?
The heat was raising in you, ugly and all-consuming, and at one point it just became a complete disaster. The dam that you tried to hold back broke fully, and you couldn’t help the fat tears rolling down your cheeks and the loud and ugly hiccups that started ripping through your body.
You made your hands move despite the tremble. A box that looked semi-decent was placed on the ground. Your old album with pictures. Your shoes, which you left at Rafe’s after one of the dates he took you to at the restaurant that felt too fancy. The designer sunglasses he bought you which now were half broken.
You shoved it inside, crying and hiccuping despite yourself, not caring anymore how pathetic you sounded because every single one of these things held a memory of yours. Memory that Rafe so carelessly threw away and kicked around.
“Hey, c’mon, why are you crying?” Rafe’s voice came in when he stopped pacing behind you. “Hey, don’t cry.” He stepped closer suddenly, first walking in front of you like he didn't know what to do with all of this, then crouching down to catch your attention.
Rafe felt startled. He wanted to be angry, hell, he was angry when you came, but now it was different. You were shattering there in front of him, crying like he had never heard before. Your whole body was shaking, maybe in panic, maybe in pain—he couldn't say and couldn't understand because nothing prepared him for seeing you like this. He couldn’t even believe the sickness rising up from his stomach, twisting somewhere so deep it almost hurt.
“Get—get away from me, Rafe!” You cried, refusing to even look at him, too focused on whatever stuff you had in your hands and falling miserably at trying to shove it inside. “Leave me alone!”
“Hey, hey!” His eyes were concerned when he moved closer to you, hand resting on your shoulder just to try to get your attention to make you even look at him. “Why are you crying, baby?”
You broke down totally, unable to even breath properly with the way your tears were choking you. Rafe’s hand felt heavy on your shoulder, he tried to pull you closer just slightly, but it was enough for you to surge forward and fall into his embrace.
He didn’t hesitate even for a second to wrap both of his hands around you. One came up to cradle the back of your head, while another one fell over your back—protectively, yet softly enough for your face to twist from how much you needed to feel that after all this time. The distance, the fight, Rafe’s absence—God knows where—were killing you, and the moment your face pressed against his neck, it started to hurt even more, if that were even possible.
“I’m sorry.” You hiccuped against him, hugging him back and shaking from emotions. “I’m so sorry, Rafe. I don’t know what to do—I’m—I’m—” Your voice broke suddenly, words dying against his shoulder while your tears started seeping through his polo.
“Sh-h, that’s okay.” He soothed, hand on the back of your head, stroking your hair softly. You shook your head, squeezing your eyes harder. “Don’t cry. Don’t cry, baby.”
He pulled back, moving both of his hands to hold your face. Rafe’s fingers swiped at the wetness under your eyes, shushing you again and watching you with intense and worried eyes. You squirmed, wanting to say more, as another wave of apologies was on the tip of your tongue. Rafe shook his head no, and the next thing you knew, he kissed you.
You tried to push him away out of instinct, slightly nudging his shoulder with hands that felt too weak anyway. But Rafe only moved closer, his hold on your cheeks tightening like he was trying to keep you still and where he needed you to be.
The kiss was wet with your tears, desperate because of all the tension and hate and anger you two held in yourself. Rafe was never slow or hesitant in this aspect, but this time you could feel another edge in him like he needed this just as much as you did.
You pulled away slightly, already missing the press of his lips against yours when you furrowed slightly. “Rafe—”
“Don’t.” He mumbled, face just inches away from yours, eyes searching yours. “Don’t say anything, okay?” He pulled even further away, sitting on the back of his heels, for a few agonizing seconds just assessing the situation around him.
Rafe stood up so suddenly it startled you. He started moving efficiently, with steady hands fixing the boxes and putting every single thing inside with care, checking in on you with his eyes every few seconds.
You were still hiccuping, still stupidly sitting on the ground, looking at him and feeling nothing but confusion. Was that a kiss-goodbye he felt kind enough to give you just to shut you up? Was he just helping to bring all of the stuff back to your car? You didn't know and you didn't have time to think about it too much before he was done, before everything looked neat and organized except for you sitting still.
“C’mon.” Rafe’s voice sounded softer, that familiar drawl you used to hear and loved whenever the two of you were together—the one he had only for you. You furrowed your brows at him, still not understanding.
Rafe moved before your mind could catch up. He grabbed you by your upper arms, hauling you back up on shaky legs, not leaving nor stepping away the second that he did. Your hands rested on his chest out of instinct to stabilize you, and looking into his eyes, you didn’t see a single protest.
“Let’s get you inside, baby.”
He was already leading you back up the stairs into the house, closing the door with a soft click behind you and making you furrow.
"But—but—my stuff is still there, and I shouldn’t be here, Rafe.” You started mumbling again as he led you back into an empty space. Nothing but floor-to-ceiling windows, kitchen cabinets, and a mattress on the floor Rafe probably slept on after the furniture was moved. “I don’t understand. Why are we—I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable—”
"No one's gonna touch it there." He turned around, hands finding their way back on your face. Whatever you wanted to say next died on your tongue. You shut your mouth, feeling the way your heart was steadily hammering against your rib cage. Rafe was right there, pressed against you the way he always used to be, looking down at you with those stormy blue eyes and holding your face like something precious.
He saw that your eyes filled with tears again, the pretty face of yours looked almost defeated. Rafe kissed you again before the tears could fall or before you could start talking or apologizing again.
This time you didn’t try to push him away. Your hands fell around his shoulders out of an instinct, and you let your body sag in his embrace. Rafe’s hand moved down your body, sliding over your spine and settling on the curve of your waist, while another one moved a bit lower to your neck. His thumb pressed under your jaw, tilting your face up, when the kiss started to become something more.
You let out a soft sound against his lips, unable to help yourself. They parted slowly, and Rafe took that opportunity to slide his tongue into your mouth. He groaned at the taste of you he missed so much but also relished how good you felt finally pressed against him.
It quickly turned into something you two did a million times before, when you both were too lost in each other and when the want started to become unbearable. Your hands were tangled in each other’s clothes, impatient and desperate for more, until one thing came off after another.
Soon you were standing only in your underwear, Rafe's pants already undone when you tried to push them down with still shaky hands. He pushed you backwards, guiding you towards the makeshift bed he had on the floor, careful to not trip over the shoes and clothes scattered around the giant room.
“Rafe—I want you, please.” You mumbled, falling down on the plush material. He towered over you, still fumbling with his pants.
Rafe took them off, standing in front of you in only his boxers, the bulge already prominent at the front. He looked down, feeling like he was burning just from the sight of you lying in front of him—almost naked, your bra already tossed aside. Your eyes were still glassy, still holding there something unsaid, but your lips were swollen and a bit parted while you were breathing heavily. His tongue ran over his lower lip, holding back a groan, and then Rafe moved to kneel in between your legs.
“You have me.” He mumbled, hands like magnets instantly going up to your thighs, parting your legs so he could fit right in there.
The position was so familiar yet strange. It was months since he had you like this the last time, since before he even ran away with Pogues—so trusting, naked, and waiting for him to have his way with you. Usually Rafe would’ve teased, would’ve spent so much time just taking you apart with his hands and mouth before he even got to the main part. But now the need was too maddening to wait any longer.
Rafe’s body covered you fully. His mouth pressed against your lips before you could say anything else, and you felt the heat of him through the two flimsy layers still separating you. He rolled his hips forward, impatiently, groaning when he felt your wetness seeping through the lace. His hand held the side of your face again almost possessively, while another one reached in between you to push his boxers down. His cock sprang free, heavy and leaking for you, too neglected after such a long time without your body wrapped around him.
“Fuck, baby—” Rafe hissed, pushing your own underwear aside and swiping the head through your warm and wet folds. You both shuddered in excitement, your legs hiking up higher around his body, locking behind his back and pushing him closer.
His cock slid inside you with almost no resistance. You cried out, your eyes rolling back at the stretch. Rafe’s forehead fell against yours, your breathing mixing together. There was a bit of silence, a moment while he let you adjust, let you both feel the weight of the moment that neither of you wanted to forget.
Rafe kissed you once again, finally moving inside of you with soft and deep strokes. He filled you to the brim, each thrust making your breath hitch and your hands wrap tighter around his shoulders. The wet, filthy sound of him fucking you filled the otherwise silent room.
“Rafe—Rafe—” You cried, tightening around him, feeling like everything was just too much, every single one of your nerves being on the edge. Your eyes filled with tears once more when Rafe’s lips pecked yours again and again with soft and small kisses, his hand never leaving your face and rubbing your cheek with familiar gentleness. “I’m sorry for everything. I never wanted to ruin it. Us.”
“Don’t fucking care, okay?” He mumbled, not stopping the movement even for a second. “We’re gonna fix it, yeah? Can’t do it without you. Only you. Only fucking you, baby.”
You full-on cried, hot tears rolling down your face only to be swiped away by Rafe’s thumb. You nodded to his words despite yourself, at the same time feeling the warmth that was crawling up your spine. Your pussy fluttered around his cock when you got closer to your release, the deep and steady rolls of his hips good enough for your vision to blur.
“Let go for me, c’mon. I’ve got you.” His eyes fluttered close for a few seconds, his own orgasm approaching too at the feeling of you tightening around him. Your moans became even softer, even more breathy, near his ear, and he couldn’t help but groan in response.
“I love you, Rafe.”
You shattered under him, trembling with your whole body when you finally reached your peak. A few more tears rolled down your cheeks, now mostly from you being too overwhelmed by all the emotions. Rafe cursed near your face, his fingers digging into your thigh when he followed right after you.
“I love you.” He groaned, stilling when his cock twitched inside of you and the warm and milky liquid filled you. His hips stuttered a few more times, pushing his cum deeper until you both could do nothing but groan at the feeling. “Love you so fuckin’ much, baby.”
Rafe fell on top of you with full weight. You squirmed slightly, more relishing the familiar feeling of his embrace and the way his skin felt against yours. There was nothing either of you could say at the moment—not when your hearts were hammering in your ears and you both tried to even your breathing. Rafe just moved enough to give you space but still have you fully against him, and the way his hand slowly and gently stroked your hair made you believe that everything is going to be okay.
