Jane Austen’s final chapter
To be quite fair, I don’t give a shit about Jane Austen. Her life was a little hard but she was witty and cheeky and had very close relationships with people. What I did like about this like four episode series was the fact that through all of it, she had an amazing connection with her sister Cassandra. I think that having any relationship that’s not financial or benefiting is great, but I loved to hear that she had good relations with someone in her family.
It was also quite interesting to hear that she wasn’t as poor as I had thought. She was pretty well off for herself and had a lot of access to a lot of things. If I remember correctly, she was sort of like special and had to be super special to have all the access she did for her books and whatnot. It was clear she was an avid reader (obviously.)
I also liked that royalty even liked her books. She was just that good. She was quick and witty, and she didn’t take a lot of shit. I liked that about her.
I also liked the letters she would write to her sister and the things she’d say about the man she was seeing. I think that having to infer something about the nature of those letters really does give me a spark when someone mentions her. She was an amazing writer for her time, I just for some reason couldn’t get into it. I don’t think it’s because it wasn’t tragic enough, because god forbid it was pretty tragic. I mean a lot of her class and family died of the typhus fever. That’s absolutely terrible.
