actually tho the worst thing abt blind banker is that its not even Like That bc they just didnt think about the complications re:racism and orientalism of adapting an 1890s english crime story to modern tv (whoch would be bad enough). because its NOT ADAPTING ANYTHING... the inclusion of the pottery is kind of loosely referencing some of illustrious client, the concept of the book codes is kind of based on a thing in valley of fear, theres elements of sign of four but again its mostly in the 'valuable stolen treasure hidden and given away' and some vague cryptology stuff. the actual plot of blind banker and the 'chinese circus' and chinese organised crime group etc is Entirely invented for bbc sherlock. there was No reason to do it the way they did
