Wanted to draw out the main five nemeses from the Heroes Thirteen!
I took a lot of artistic liberties since we are given practically no visual description of the characters apart from Handsome Gold lmao. I am particularly attached to Praline and Lithandel’s designs. like. a lot.
I yap about my design choices below the cut. Proceed with caution
Terence the Shrew: I struggled the most with this guy. I’m pretty sure he’s probably maybe a halfling, but I really don’t know. His son is a halfling, but idk about him. He’s also described to kind of be the only one who’s really old and retired soooo I made him look like someone’s old alcoholic abusive father cus that’s probably his vibe anyways 😭 Wasn’t sure how to communicate his shrew-ness so.. eeuuhh… Yeah, this was a difficult one for sure
Lithandel: Bro is proooobably maaaaybe a dragonborn but that’s boring and I don’t wanna draw a dragon. I instead made him dragon-adjacent and really lean into that Voice of the Dragon title he has and draconic lineage sorcerer vibes. I have many headcanon-y thoughts about Lithandel since he’s the one we have the least amount of information on, but I’m keeping those thoughts out of this design as much as I can. Since he is the counterpart to Melvin though, I reaaally wanted to give him some big ol’ eyes that stare into your soul similar to how Melvin does lol. That was like the one major thing for his design. Make him dragon-adjacent, and give him some big big eyeballs. He also has an undercut but you can’t see it here 💔
Handsome Gold: He was very fun to design and I’m very relieved I was able to make him actually pretty, since I was worried he’d turn out weird or not handsome enough since being the most handsome in the world is literally his whole character basically. I used Alucard from Castlevania and Prince Charming from Shrek 2 as direct inspirations/references lmao. I also don’t know what race he is, he’s probably human, but I imagine him as either elf or half-elf - I just settled on elf in the end. I’m very happy with how he turned out
Barnabas the Slate: So this guy is 100% just Gandalf. I used a bunch of Gandalf images and art to inspire this guy’s look and then gave him a little bit of a crown-like adornment to his wizard hat since he’s the royal advisor and stand-in king while the actual king is away. I don’t have a whole lot to say on his design if I’m honest. He’s Gandalf
Praline: PRALIIIIINE ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I don’t have a favorite. Okay yes, I do have a favorite and it’s THEM. In Praline’s actual present-day design, he has some gayass whimsical sunglasses, but I elected to not draw them so I could instead show the homophobia (heterochromia) in his eyes <3 He was so fun to draw and design and I adore how their hair turned out. It looks so soft. His smile was also fun to draw cus of the gith teeth. I have too many thoughts on Praline that I’m restraining myself from writing so this doesn’t end up being a whole essay. But I love Praline and the design I made for them and it is now CANON to me. He is my favorite and so so interesting. It was fun learning how to draw a githyanki in my style, namely with the ears. I didn’t really have any specific references or inspiration for his design like I did with the others, I just kinda had a very clear image in my mind and drew from the heart. I love Praline ❤️
