alright i guess i’ll post about how built between my ribs rewrites honest hearts cause i’m getting close to that part in the story where it starts to diverge from canon. this is mostly salt upon wounds character expansion
Salt Upon Wounds is a nom de guerre, his actual name is Hai’ntse which is a variation of the Shoshoni word for friend
He recently became chief of the white legs after trial by combat. The past chief wanted to continue raiding indefinitely while Hai’ntse and his supporters wanted to phase out of raiding.
His family includes his son, Gryphon and his daughter Molly, who are his main political advisors as well as his children. He has two other children who are still in the Salt Lake region, along with his disabled wife, and all of the tribes children, elders, disabled, and non combatants in general.
Gryphon gave him the idea of joining the Legion because he was manipulated by them in a similar way the Khans were by Karl
Molly however, believes the solution is to become self-sufficient, and the best way to do so is to assimilate into another tribe so they can learn. Unfortunately, those other tribes happen to be the ones Caesar requires destroyed. It’s not a coincidence, Caesar did this purposefully so Molly’s solution would be less feasible
The “violent sadistic murder man” thing is new canaanite propaganda that the sorrows and dead horses believe without question
in reality, he sees violence as the only way to ensure the future of his people, an uncomfortable reality that he copes with by emotionally distancing himself from violence, which makes him seem cold hearted
he wants to go with Molly’s idea, but after making enemies of the only tribes that could help them, he feels he has no choice but to go with Gryphon’s idea
