BIOGRAPHY
If there was one thing Bethany Bradford knew about, it was control. She regulated her eating patterns, sleeping patterns, her study schedule and her friends. She ensured everything in her life was perfect at all costs - from the right grades to the perfect composure and appearance. From a young age, it was hammered into her by her mother that she needed to be perfect, and the moment she let things fall out of place, would be the moment her life would begin to waste away to nothing. Perhaps this was not the right thing to say to a mere four year old, but it certainly stuck with the girl. She yearned for perfection from then on, travelling to complete in beauty pageants and talents shows. These competitions filled a young Bethany Bradford with pride. She loved knowing that she was brilliant, that she was worthy of her mother’s love and better than the average children her age. It was obvious that Beth would never stopped trying to be the best, be it in childhood beauty pageants, or High School academia, where she would practice violin and cello for hours on end after coming home from classes.
With her utter focus on perfection and control, it has been difficult for people to get Beth to warm to them… or even for people to want to warm to the girl. Some call her uptight, a prude, a bitch, and every other name under the sun to describe a supposedly cold woman who gave a fuck about what happened to her future. She never really let herself have fun or relax, and when she did, something bad always seemed to happen as a result. This has left the girl almost permanently stressed and serious, constantly trying to fix fault within herself and judging those who don’t try as hard as she does. Really, the only time Beth Bradford ever felt calm was when she had an instrument in hand.
Coming to Blackthorne was only the second time Bethany Bradford had ever disobeyed her parents and tarnished the pretty little reputation of hers. The first was through a complicated relationship with a girl who made Beth’s head spin and priorities astray… but she was supposedly over that now. Blackthorne was the real life changing decision she’d made on behalf of her own happiness. Her parents wanted her to go to business school, to become a CEO and take over the world. As much as Beth would have loved to take over the world, the thought of being stuck in a mindless office all day scared the girl to death. It was not what she wanted, and Bethany Bradford was incredibly accustomed to gaining what she wanted. So, instead she applied for music schools across the country, not daring to tell anyone (except the girl who made her head spin) until she was accepted.
Her parents did not take the sudden change in future well. All through her life they had looked down upon the arts as a frivolous pastime, something you only id if you valued happiness over money and had a death wish. But Beth Bradford, even with her icy looks and snide comments, loved music more than she loved anything else, more than anyone else, so she risked her family for her dreams. Their relationship remains edgy as Beth continues with the only thing that made her truly happy. Once again, her entire focus is on being perfect, on ensuring that she’s brilliant enough to come out of University with a future. Part of it is because she could never really let up the reins and loosen her control, but also because some part of her believes that if she proved she was the best, her parents would accept her and love her again. Beth was a bright and exceptionally smart girl, but she was also possibly delusional in that respect.
