Well, the new BBUK House sure is garish
ITV promised us "a makeover that’s easy on the eye", but if I were you, I'd have your drops at the ready – this year's House certainly is bright.
A fairground funhouse hallway with excellent wall sconces (ITV's sconce game is, admittedly, solid) connects the outside world to the open-plan living area. Inside, there's a large, Big Brother eye-shaped dining table (with 13 chairs 👀), a comfy-looking teal sitting area, and... just... so many eyeballs.
It'd all be a bit "Poundland Halloween party" if it weren't for the Rube Goldberg-esque contraptions dotted about the place, which are very reminiscent of this year's promos (and presumably opening titles). One of them – the yellow pipe, pictured below – is definitely going to be used for a twist of some sort.
The kitchen, as always in the ITV era, manages to exude a luxurious sort of feel. Branching off from the kitchen is undoubtedly my favourite part of the new House – the Diary Room corridor, which has a cool forced-perspective effect, and a pulsing green light on the door. Like so many elements of this year's on-air "look", it's beautifully reminiscent of Big Brother 3.
The bedroom branches off from the other end of the living area. I joked on Bluesky that this House was giving "ITV daytime" – and that was before I saw the bedroom, which immediately put me in mind of Loose Women. I do like the stripey, pink and blue headboards, but everything else is just a bit discordant for my liking.
And, branching off from the bedroom is the last stop on today's tour (Update: the garden and Diary Room have now been revealed, too) – the bathroom. It's, um, very yellow. I do like that the orange puffer-jacket-esque countertops from the kitchen have been carried through.
Big Brother: Live Launch kicks off this Sunday, 28th September, at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX. So you have until then to turn down the colour on your TV.
