Port Vell – a Prime Location

Port Vell was originally built when the city was expecting an influx of visitors for the 1992 Olympic Games. Since then it has been renamed, rebranded and renovated. Now known as OneOcean Port Vell the port and port area is a haven for superyachts. The port marina can accommodate up to 148 docked yachts of five meters and well as mega yachts measuring up to 190 meters. This is one of only three such superyacht marinas in the world (Porto Montenegro and Yacht Haven St Thomas in the Virgin Isles). The revamping of Port Vell was completed in 2014 and now welcomes the rich and super rich in their yachts and superyachts who come to stay for a day or even weeks in Barcelona.

The marina’s location in the heart of the city has given a real boost to businesses in the area as well as bringing in a hefty profit for the nautical industry. One of the reasons that the superyacht marina has been such a success is because Barcelona itself is such a draw card. The city is famed for its culture, excellent weather, shopping, nightlife and culinary delights. The city’s location is another plus for yachters as it is conveniently close to other countries and islands.

OneOcean Club Barcelona

Attractions in the area include OneOcean Club, a private club. Visitors to the city can get a free 48 hour membership when applying in advance which gives them full access to the facilities. The OneOcean Club is known for its excellent restaurant and bar; exclusive gym, spa and fitness facilities, a business hub, yoga classes and bars. The OneOcean Club is just 5 minutes from the Gothic Quarter and 10 minutes from Ramblas.

Port Vell Neighborhood

The area around the port has many restaurants, hotels, shops, museums and attractions. Port Vell starts where La Rambla finishes at the seafront where the monument of Columbus stands. ON one side is the 14th century shipyard, Drassanes Reials and the Barcelona Marine Museum and on the waterfront is the Portal de la Pau where the historic schooner, Pailebot Santa Eulalia is docked. This is where the Golondrinas pleasure boats leave from. From here Rambla de Mar, a wooden boardwalk takes you to the Maremagnum retail and entertainment complex; the Barcelona Aquarium and the famous polychrome sculpture by Roy Lichtenstein. Then you get to the part of Port Vell which boarders Barceloneta and the old harbor warehouse and Palau de Mar which houses the Museum of Catalunya History.
