“so,” it was said with a loud sigh as ares flopped down onto the couch beside her. he had a water in one hand, and a bowl of chips in the other, both of which he held out in offering. “happy birthday,” his smile grew with his words, as if he hadn’t said those two little words a dozen times today. from the time he woke her up, until right now, it’s been all about her birthday! 

now, ares wasn’t the best chef. but he could drive, and he could pay — which is how their day started. waking her up, forcing her into comfy clothes, and loading her in his car. they went to what he’d have to say was their favorite little diner for breakfast, and even got them to stick a single birthday candle on yumi’s plate. 

but that wasn’t the end of it. sure, they went home, but only after a good breakfast. and then? well, he put her on a timer, to be frank. get dressed, look good! we have a full day ahead of us. and he hadn’t been lying. a relaxing, long walk through their cities best botanical garden. a mini photoshoot while they were there, of course. it was only right that they documented all of the flowers, themselves included. right?

and then a coffee break felt necessary. very necessary, so they popped into a cute little café for a few. 

but it didn’t mean their day was ending, no, because sooner rather than later they were crossing through the doors of a local art museum. there was no rush, either. they could take their time, enjoy every piece as was deserved. lunch followed, only the best sushi. 

it was kind of funny, really, but ares loved all of these things just as much as she did — it only made it that much better, though, didn’t it? spending quality time with his best friend, seeing what the city had to offer.

but it served a dual purpose. 

it left their apartment open for their friends to get inside and decorate. balloons and cakes, drinks and music. it was like their home was turned into a personal night club, that’s how good it looked by the time ares was ushering his friend back inside their apartment.

but now? now, with everyone gone and the music turned down. with their bellies full of good food and drinks, and more memories than he knew what to do with? he was happy to be able to just sit back and talk, to keep his eyes on her and check in.
