Simba had forgotten that today was the day he’d told Jake that he could come into InterPride to give Simba an interview as part of some school project (he forgot what the hell it was actually on because Simba was a mess.) He didn’t remember until his new secretary reminded him (the other secretary had been a temp who got placed somewhere else, this was a temp too, his name was Henrik and he was mousy thing who had big round glasses and stuttered and could hardly look Simba in the eye and reminded him of--).
It was 7:30 in the morning when Henrik had knocked on his office door and brought Simba a coffee (even though Simba already had a cup, he was always bringing Simba a coffee, no matter how many times he told him it was okay not to.) He took Simba’s near empty cup after a bit of tug-o-war, which Simba gave into because he was just--too tired to argue.
It has been--12 days. And Simba had slept like shit for each one. That was fine though. A little bit of whiskey in his second cup of coffee and he was right as rain.
“Uhm, sir?” Simba was too tired to tell him to call him by his name. “D-don’t f-forget that a-a J-Jake...Long is c-coming this morning.”
“What?”
“M-Mr. Long?”
“What do you mean coming this morning?”
“The--school--s-sir you s-signed off on...this...almost three--weeks ago?”
“Oh.” Simba blinked tiredly. “Right. Yeah. What time?”
“9 o’clock, sir.”
“Alright. Thanks.”
Henrik skittered out and Simba leaned back in his chair, opening the bottom drawer of his desk where he kept his extra bottle of whiskey these days and watched it slosh back and forth. He wanted it so badly.
He stared at it until 9 o’clock, when the buzzer went off and Henrik told him Jake was here. Simba told him to send him in and kicked the drawer closed, standing up tall and forcing a smile onto his face and the light into his eyes, he came around the desk, chipper as ever as Jake opened the door.
“Jake!! Hey! It’s good to see you! Been a while, eh?” He held his hand out for a fist bump.
