Rumor Has It || Mother Nurse

Minnie was at home occupying herself with a few things that needed to get completed. Peri was out working her tattoo shift and so it was just the brunette and the cats. She had a couple of paperwork in front of her that she was filling out. They were the last final touches for the new position she’ll be starting soon as the school nurse for Swynlake Primary. 

She was excited as this was a new step for her, but she knew most of her co-workers didn’t share the same sentiment when she dropped the news to them. 

However, she wasn’t going to leave them forever! She was still keeping her position in the hospital, but as per diem so that she could cut in hours and make her own schedule. It felt like an altogether win-win for the brunette. 

Plus, it was something she really needed to do now if she were to heal mentally from all that has happened to her. 

Speaking of co-workers, Minnie heard her doorbell ring as she got up to open the door. On the other side, was a dear co-worker and friend of hers, Kanga! Minnie was excited to see her, smiling bright and immediately welcoming her with a warm hug.

“Kanga! What a lovely surprise! I’m so glad to see you, come in!”

Because Junis was Junis he could still find things to hate about his favorite time of the year. There was a list. There were a few lists actually. One was alphabetized, another was sectioned into categories, and the other was more of a ranking system, things he hated the most to things he hated the least about Spring. High ranked on that list was weeding. 

It had been his first job when he had been a child and Daphne was just a baby. His mother had asked him to help him in their personal garden on the side of the house, and in the flower beds along the front of the house. Pulling the weeds. For most people it was a terrible chore, for Junis it had given him something to keep his mind occupied. The only thing was that he wouldn’t be able to stop until he had checked five times over that there was no weed left, which meant that it took a while. 

So it had been nice to have company. These days he didn’t have a house full of siblings he could bribe or force to sit out there with him. He just had to resort to the next best thing. Kanga. Junis had called and asked if she wanted to help, giving her the time and day a week in advance while he had added it to his calendar. 

The day had arrived and he was outside of his house, kneeling in front of the very edge of the flower bed to the right tearing the weeds from their spot, making sure to get the whole of the root.

Changing of the Guard -||- [Kakela]

Akela had Rhea. Had offered to take her while Raksha did the shopping. He had the day off, and while he could be in the forest, Akela would freely admit that he loved spending time with the baby. It was an Alpha’s duty, after all, to provide the education for all the young pups. Men were not excluded from helping raise the children. He had changed diapers and sang songs and read books and taught them the ways of the wolves and forest. 

But, he was also handing her off to her father because he had work in an hour. He had tried to get his shift changed, but it was not happening. No one could take it. And Mowgli was working as well. 

Which meant a distasteful visit to the hospital. 

He strode in, feeling immediately out of place amongst the machines and sterile environment free of any nature besides that of humans.

“Uhm, excuse me,” he said, tapping a woman near the nurse’s station on the shoulder with the hand that was not tucked under 8-month-old Rhea’s bum where she sat on his hip. “Do you know where Nurse Bhediya is?”

It was Bowie who sniffed out Kanga deRosa in a quiet part of the hospital.

He and Simba were there for their weekly rounds--one of Simba’s favourite volunteer activities. It was always nice and grounding, calming too--watching the patients interact with Bowie, smiling when they may not have other things to smile about. Simba was never jealous of Bowie’s affection, he loved watching the dog snuggle with whoever needed it--it made him feel...proud, weird as that sounded. But, it was true. 

And sometimes, Bowie found the nurses and doctors too--like he could sniff out the sadness on them (he probably could). Simba loved that too. He had no idea what working in a hospital was like, but he could imagine it wasn’t as rewarding as it initially sounded. He’d been in and out of the hospital enough to know that. 

So, he was happy to provide what service he could. 

They were just on their way out for the day when Bowie’s ears perked down a hallway and Simba let him take the lead until he was sniffing at Kanga’s shoes and pressing his nose against her leg, tail wagging softly.

“Hey, Kanga,” Simba said, much more softly than he would usually. His smile quieter too. “How’re you?”
