K so I was thinking thoughts about Patrick Macnee (as one does), about how he was one incredibly resilient man who seems to have known how to take the garbage that life throws at one and turn it into something positive. Below is a kind of shorthand explanation of what I’m talking about:
*is subjected to lots of body shaming* Patrick Macnee: Fuck this shit. I'mma be a nudist.
*sees friends shot to death in war* Patrick Macnee: Fuck this shit. I'mma speak out against guns.
*suffers a lot of emotional abuse growing up* Patrick Macnee: Fuck this shit. I'mma get me some therapy.
*screws something up* Patrick Macnee: Fuck this shit. I'mma apologize and then try to do better next time.
I mean, seriously: dude got all kinds of shit about his body, and his response was TAKE IT ALLLLLLLL OFF ALL OF IT HOW YA LIKE ME NOW, but mostly he did it because he realized he needed to learn to love his body himself. He saw first hand the horror that comes with people shooting at each other, so he spoke out against guns whenever he had an opportunity. He faced his demons. He took responsibility for his actions and tried to change what he needed to change.
I’m not saying the dude was totes perfect; I don’t doubt that he had his share of hangups that he struggled with and couldn’t get past. But still. He seems to have tried to do better whenever he could. And that’s important.
Be like Patrick.
