I've seen a lot of people say they want to see a movie adaptation of the Be More Chill musical. And to that I gotta say no for two things.
The first one is clearly that I dont want people to fuck it up. If the DEH and Mean Girls adaptations have showed us anything is that
a) If you are making a musical BE SURE TO ADVERTISE IT AS IT IS, people who hate musicals won't enjoy a fucking musical and THAT IS OKAY. Instead of trying to hide the fact that it'd be a a musical, EMBRACE IT, ADVERTISE IT TO THE THEATER KIDS OR ANYONE WHO IS MILDLY INTERESTED.
b) Make sure to get people who love bmc, ask the creators about it and keep in touch with it's core audience. Don't make changes just for the sake of making them, and for the love of God GET PEOPLE WHO CAN SING AND ACT, but not act as in stage acting. Act as in tv acting because there's a big fucking difference!
The second thing is that I think it would work better as a miniseries. And they don't really have to sing. Now hear me out! I'm gonna go with three options this time.
They don't sing, BUT they keep their little themes, like, for example, the first time Jeremy meets Christine and she starts rambling about theater, the background music is softly playing I love play rehearsal. Or after Jeremy leaves Michael in the Halloween party you can clearly hear a piano playing the melody of Michael in the bathroom.
They sing the songs, without CHANGING ANYTHING (I'm looking at you, mean girls),or like, at least not big stuff.
They could keep the most important ones and just roll with it I guess. This is the one I would dislike the most, honestly. Either you sing them all, or you don't.
Idk, I just feel like it would really work as a miniseries. Also, you would be able to do a lot of staff that is impossible in theater, like, they could make the squip a hologram, and play more with the idea that Michael is there but Jeremy can't physically see him because of the optic nerve blocking. Plus, a miniseries isn't really that restricting with it's duration. A movie would last two hours at best. A miniseries can last as long as you want.
And the thing I would love the most:
I would die if instead of the bmc musical adaptation, it was an adaptation of the book, the play and the musical. Like, give me the humiliation sheets! Rich and Jeremy being closer! More characters! The squip speaking Spanish and standing on tables! And a lot of other stuff I really enjoy from both the book and the play.
Plus, Id adore if they played music at certain points of the (imaginary) show. I don't know, I just really like imagining Jeremy arriving at the Halloween Party and just hearing You Spin Me Round playing from inside the house and just... Agh. I wanna see Michael having a mental breakdown and hearing the drunk girl sing along to Whitney
Not to mention that with a show you are allowed to give your characters time to bond between them. I once read a post about Jeremy and Rich being closer and playing video games and just "connecting" (or synching up lol) and I'd honestly love that for them
Idk, ig I just have a lot feelings about this
Honestly, I love this era's bmc fandom, because someone will say "Jeremy is a trans boy" and everyone will agree. And then someone says "Jeremy is a trans girl" and people will be like, ah, yes, you are absolutely right. And then another person will say "Jeremy is actually non-binary!" and everyone will immediately accept the headcanon.
And there are all this version of trans Jeremy that coexist in people's mind and are not exclusionary of other trans Jeremys. And it's great because people are not shitting on other people's headcanons because they are too busy drawing transfem Emmie fanart or explaining in detail how Jeremy found out they were non binary, or people saying Jeremy has a Miku binder (Thomas Jefferson flashbacks).
And I just love that for us. Let's keep the trans positivity up. I wanna see more of it.
I love it when people recognize that my profile picture is Trina from Falsettos and my user name is a BMC reference.
It's so funny to me how I'll be posting something byler related or a random reblog and someone will recognize my pfp and go crazy like they just spotted an exotic animal in the wild. And it brings me so much joy how people refere to me as if I were Trina.
Like whenever someone goes "OH TRINA FROM FALSETTOS!!! HIIIIIIIIIIII :D" Im literally kicking my feet and giggling like yessssss, I am now, Trina. We are one and the same. I must be known as Trina, the deltarune obsessed byler shipper that has been fixated on be more chill for two years now.
Also, fun fact, the name I use online, "Annabeth", is not my real name, but I picked this one because it's kinda close to my irl name and, of course, because of Annabeth Chase. I like references, if you couldn't tell.
Dude Halloween was so shit to everyone in BMC like holy fuck I'm filled with the sudden urge to write a fanfic with everyone's points of view of Halloween because it was so shit guys. So so shit.
Once I was staying in a hotel having dinner, and I saw a waiter that looked a little too much like Will Connolly's Jeremy Heere.
And I would stare at him when he wasn't looking, because jfc he looked so much like him. I was SHAKING.
And I wanted to say something to the people who I was having dinner with (a bunch of teens whom I just met) but I knew nobody would understand and they'd think I'm crazy so I just sat there in silence eating my ravioli and staring at tha poor weiter.
Damn, I haven't been active in a while.
So I made this quick drawing of Chloe as a demigod because I'm really fucking obsessed with the Percy Jackson Universe and be more chill.
Dont mind me, I'm just gonna dump some of my headcanons here mostly because I've been building this au since like, last year and I really like drawing Chloe so...
She's a daughter of Nemesis and DON'T EVEN TRY TO FIGHT ME ON THIS ONE
I feel like people would definitely bet on her being an Ares/Aphrodite kid.
This is before Percy (does Percy still exists in this au? Don't even know) made that deal with the gods about claiming their kids and giving minor gods more cabins, so that's why she has a Hermes top.
Yeah, I know camp half-blood t-shirts are the same for every camper but LET ME CHANGE THEM DEPENDING ON THEIR GODLY PARENT PLEASE I'M BEGGING
She has an undercut because I say so
Brooke cropped her t-shirt and now it's a top
In this au they do fight Kronos (who I want to resemble the squip's part on bmc, tho I'm still working on that part).
Some of the squip squad would definitely join Kronos, like Jeremy, Rich and Chloe because reasons (I just want to make them suffer and I like angst)
She kind of has the role of both Ethan Nakamura and Clarisse in this au. Like a badass who has been neglected and has made some bad decisions that shouldn't define her.
She is the best fighter at camp, like, she is madly skill with her spear
She really resents her mom, so ofc she has mommy issues (don't they all really?)
Thats it
I hhave a list of headcanons for other characters that are definitely longer and more elaborate — I just like drawing Chloe and this was the perfect excuse for a bit of lore dropping (plus she's a badass so whatever)
I've been thinking a lot (weird, I know) about how would the story in BMC change if Jeremy was a girl when she took the squip. Although her goals and the moral of the story would be pretty much the same, there would be changes because of the obvious existence of gender roles. I love pretending that a genderbent character would 100% look and act like the og character, really, but if the squip wanted to help Jeremy get popular by holding him to your usual Popular-Chill-Hot Teenage Boy™ standards, then his female version would by held by really different ones.
Same with the rest of the characters if i were to turn the girls into boys and the boys into girls.
Although lately I've been thinking about how would the story unravel if Jeremy was a girl, but the rest of the cast remained the same. Yes, this is an excuse to yurify stage dorks, but this is also an excuse to explore how would Jeremy's — or Emily, I used to refer to her as Jessica but ended up changing it lol — relationships would change. Like try getting a girlfriend AND being a popular teen in New Jersey (I actually now nothing about New Jersey lmao).
So then there's this contrast between a whole genderbend cast, where the characters are the focus of the story, and just a single genderbent character, which would shine a light on the cast's changed relationships to said character.
