Hiveswap Act 1 : My Thoughts

So I just finished Act 1

I really enjoyed the game! I had a lot of fun, love seeing new characters for once and so far Xefro’s is my favorite. He’s a soft bean. Like the issues that homestuck has it has a lot to be desired through character growth and plot development.

My biggest issue with the game is that it’s TOO SHORT! I get that the game is suppose to be episodic BUT the game was suppose to come out in January. It came out today. September 14th, 2017. Not only is it eight months late but for it being that late, will how long this game has been in development it feels like Act 1 was far too short. Give or take it is only around $7-8 or $11 if you want the soundtrack.

Gameplay : 8/10 It’s a point and click adventure so there isn’t anything surprising there. Some sections are unclear as to what you can and cannot click on, especially room transitions. Can be hard to find the right spot to click on to move to a different part of the room.  Strifing is a little weird, they don’t exactly explain what your items do or how the strifing mechanics work so its more a test it out and see what happens type of thing.

Music :12/10 Music was amazing and I’m so happy I bought the soundrack. Can’t wait to listen to the music again!

Plot: 9/10 Some stuff doesn’t make much sense but it is a Homestuck game so it is expected for everything to not add up at the beginning, or the end. Or really, ever for that matter. 

Characters : 9/10 The characters you do see in Act 1 are really cute, well developed and have their likes, dislikes, ups, downs and the likes. I’m excited to see more characters and how the ones presented in Act 1 will grow.

Overall: I would overall give this game a 8/10. I love homestuck and the game was enjoyable. My only issues was that there were some glitches/issues with the overlay of the game. Some icons not matching up with the screen size I was using and the game felt far to short. Hopefully the other episodes will come out faster and not take an entire year or longer to release.
