Hey! So I thought I'd shoot you a message because I remember your Gyro cosplay being so good. I'm going to be starting a Gyro cosplay soon and was wondering what you made the belt/belt buckle/and holsters out of? I'm trying to draft my stuff out but I'm kind of stuck on how to make those, so I thought i'd ask c:
welcome to the executioner squad B) image heavy under the cut!
OK!! i used craft foam, vinyl, spray paint, fasteners, snaps, and hot glue for this belt.
the first thing i did was measure just above my hips where i wanted the belt to sit. then i just created a long rectangle by adding how wide i wanted the belt to be perpendicular to the length. you dont really have to compensate for seam allowance or whatever, because the belt gets bigger when you add the buckle to the two loose edges. the vinyl i used was in like the patio section on like a 6-foot pole, and it looks like this:
i then set aside the rectangle for now and started the buckle. at my joanns they had thicker-than-normal white craft foam sheets so i bought a couple of those so the buckle wouldnt really bend if i sat down and squished it, and a couple sheets of regular thickness. as far as drafting the buckle goes: i sketched how big i wanted the buckle to be on my crotch in the shape of the fat chevron that gyro’s belt is. this will be the backmost part of the buckle where you mount everything onto. after that i made the two middle parts by basically scaling down the bigger chevron by a tiny bit and then dividing it into two parts. i cut 8 of those from thin craft foam sheets and mounted 4 on 4 with hot glue, which fused them together almost. im better at explaining through drawings so here is a pic of the foam i cut and layered:
you can download this image and trace whatever the heck you want from it if that helps! its extremely basic not anything fancy
what i did was find a pic of the RAH gyro figure’s belt (search: ‘gyro zeppeli belt’ in google images and it’s the second image that i used), zoomed in/out until it was the correct size, and put a piece of paper on my laptop and traced the hands onto the paper. then i cut the hands out, taped them to a piece of thin foam, and cut around them again so now u have two little crotch hands.
here is the layering, done with hot glue:
after everything was hot glued and sturdy on the buckle, i found these amazing looking fasteners and stuck them at the corners of the middle layer so it looked like it was “bolted” together. then i spray painted over the entire thing and when it was dry, i drew on the black lines on the hands with a fine sharpie.
NEXT: MAKING THE BELT FUNCTIONAL!!!!!!!
now go find that vinyl piece and take one edge and glue the FUCK out of it to the back of one side of the buckle. now once that’s attached, you can start changing the circumference of the belt and make it smaller if needed, depending on how far inside the buckle you decide to place the snaps. the ones i used were huge and industrial:
now try that shit on and see if the whole belt sits properly on your hips, and MAKE SURE YOU CAN SIT WITH IT ON AND TAKE CARE OF THE BUCKLE so you dont bend it by accident which i kept forgetting to think about. and VOILA!! ur belt is done and u can let the world know u have a penis if you so choose. BUT i didnt stop there!!! i liked the whole industrial feel of his belt so i measured every couple inches and pushed in more fasteners to the top and bottom of the vinyl.
COOL!!!!!!!!!!!! UR DONE WITH THE BELT
im probably going to remake the buckle from balsa wood or something more solid because i have a knockoff dremel i can use now.
I HAVENT MADE THE HOLSTERS YET BECAUSE I DIDNT HAVE STEEL BALLS AT THE TIME, but now i made them so i can start drafting the holsters within the next week. i imagine ill fold them over at the hips of the belt and fold pieces of vinyl together to make the actual holder. heres a sketch i have in mind:
ill be documenting how i make the holsters so you can look out for those if you want!
