Weeks ago I finished devising design elements of my striped cable scarf… except the bind off. 🙄 Finally today I tried some approaches to a tabbed or crenellated bind off. Bwhahaha… After a day of disaster movies and test knitting I have a functional tabbed cast-on! I might call it Jamie’s Crenelated Cast On. JCCO. Maybe. An early scarf project, much loved and worn often over the years. I didn’t hesitate to knit something in all cables. I do remember being very pleased by figuring out where to change colors without interrupting the cables. Surprise, gay knitter knit a Rainbow Pride scarf. 😬 This was an early project, and I keep thinking I should frog and reknit the body. What I DO love about it, though, is the rainbow corkscrew fringe dangling from both ends (from Knitted Embellishments by Nicky Epstein). These Noro (?) colors looked like a seaside amusement park grotto to me, a little lurid and suited to this seafoam pattern stitch. I liked the wavy strands, so I didn’t block the scarf. Using more excellent Rach-Al-Paca yarn, I knit Charles Gandy’s Hallgrim Hat. I was so pleased with the result that I devised a coordinating scarf with his motif. Knitting it flat was much more involved because the 1x1 cables were worked on both right and wrong sides. Curiously, the back shows no sign of cables or ribbing. I hoped Charles would like the scarf. I like my scarves… long. And thick. Shut up. This one is four inches shy of eight feet. The cartridge belt rib stitch makes beautifully sqooshy fabric. Yarn is Interlacements Woollee in colorway Gray Wolf. I like a bit of asymmetry and contrast, so I included a stripe of Brown Sheep Nature Spun in Cranberry. Enough was left for matching glittens.
