The team announced that they have signed former Redskin Darrel Young, who took part in the team’s June minicamp on a tryout basis. Rookie fullback Joe Sommers was waived in a corresponding move.

#Bears have signed FB Darrel Young & waived TE Joe Sommers. OL Amini Silatolu has also passed his physical.

He was signed by the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent as a linebacker prospect in 2009. He played college football at Villanova University.

Brandon Boykin has been placed on the injured reserve ending his season

Brandon Boykin has been placed on I/R

The Chicago Bears have placed cornerback Brandon Boykin on the injured reserve ending his season.  The Bears were Boykin’s fourth team in a year.

Last season, he was traded from the Eagles to the Steelers in training camp. He hit free agency in March, signed with the Panthers, but was then cut by the Panthers two months later. He then spent a month without an NFL home before signing with the Bears last week.

Boykin had a pectoral issue, but it must have been worse than originally thought.

Patriots new TE Martellus Bennett trash Jay Cutler

In a piece from Mina Kimes of ESPN the Magazine, the Bennett brothers, Martellus and Michael Bennett bashed a couple quarterbacks.  Here is what was said:

“Worst quarterback in the NFL,” the Seahawks defensive end said.

Martellus, who probably knows Cutler on a more personal level, was slightly less harsh.

“I’d be open and he’d throw into double coverage,” he said.

Another player the Bennett brothers were asked about is Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford.

“The greatest quarterback in the NFL,” Michael said.

“Vicious,” Martellus quipped. “Competitive.”

“A real Joe Montana,” Michael added.

OUCH….

Bears give pass rusher Willie Young a two year extension

Willie Young has been signed to a two year extension by the Bears

The Chicago Bears and defensive end Willie Young have agreed to a two year contract extension according to Adam Caplan of ESPN. Last year Young led the Bears with 12 tackles for loss and was second on the Bears with 6.5 sacks.

Young is 30 years old and has been a very solid pass rusher since entering the NFL back in 2010 as a seventh round pick of the Lions.  Young will likely retire a Bear with this new deal.

Jay Cutler feels Kevin White is going to be special

Kevin White of the Bears is special according to Jay Cutler

Jay Cutler has played with some pretty amazing wide outs in Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, but he feels Kevin White is going to be special as well.

“He’s got a lot of things he’s processing, thinking through,” Cutler said, via ESPN.com. “I think for anybody taking a year off football, jumping back into it is going to be hard. A rookie missing kind of that vital year, where you learn so much that first year jumping into that second year, it’s a big miss for him. But he’s so physically gifted I think he’s going to make it up really, really quickly. It’s just a matter of him letting those athletic gifts come through and him getting comfortable with the system and the verbiage and the splits and everything else that he’s going to learn, and being at a place where he doesn’t have to think and can just go out and play football. I think once we hit a fast-forward button and get to that point, he’s going to be something special.”

This is pretty impressive because the man has played with some studs.  For the Bears sake they better hope he can perform like a beast, because the Bears need it.

Georgia OLB Leonard Floyd was just sick

Chicago Bears first round pick Chicago Bears linebacker Leonard Floyd will be fine.  According to John Fox the head coach of the Chicago Bears stated that Leonard Floyd tried to go but was not at one hundred percent.

“He was sick,” Fox said, via Peggy Kusinski of NBC Chicago. “He tried to go. He’s a tough kid, just didn’t make it through.”

Multiple reporters at Bears practice on Thursday have shared the news that linebacker Leonard Floyd left practice on a cart. This is not good news for any player to leave early on a cart, especially when it is your first round pick.

Bears offensive lineman Nate Chandler has retired at the age of 27

Bears offensive lineman Nate Chandler has retired at the age of 27

Yesterday, Nate Chandler the Chicago Bears offensive lineman hung up his cleats according to the NFL Transactions report.  Chandler appeared in 37 games with 19 starts for Carolina from 2012 to 2014. He sat out last season because of a right knee injury and joined the Bears in June.

He played in college at UCLA and began his NFL career as a defensive tackle before switching to the offensive line in 2013. All of his starts have been on the offensive line.

It is interesting to see another young player hanging up his cleats.  This is becoming a new trend in the NFL. Many are concerned about their future.
