It is My Beasts birthday today, but they’re on a trip abroad and don’t have cell service so I haven’t been able to celebrate it at all. I did send something with them that hopefully they have remembered to open. I’m too happy for them that they are on this trip to really be sad but it does feel weird to let it pass by without remark. Let it be known that today 25 years ago the world was changed forevermore by the arrival of a great and terrible beast, whose impressive countenance none have seen the like before or since, whose prowess defies understanding or reason, whose bravery and mercy has humbled and bested endless foes, and who gifts me with endless love and loyalty and dirty socks on the floor next to the couch in the same exact spot every single time without fail even if they were only here for like twenty minutes, somehow.
Whenever I think of them I am reminded of that famous Wittgenstein quote, “If I lion could speak we would not understand him.” Truly nothing and no one is like My Beast. May they live forever and never die
