“Beastars” chapters 195 and 196 review - the end of the series
I couldn’t get my act together and review chapter 195 in time, so I’ll do both at once.
“Beastars” is full of parallels and so as chapter 194 was Louis’ and Juno’s date, the chapter 195 is Legosi’s and Haru’s date. Legosi is stressed the whole time, because Haru’s ears are really swollen which means she is extremely irritated. Turns out Haru is angry at herself that loving Legosi and being with him means following all the things she was desperately running away from. She admires a male much stronger and cooler than her, she becomes dependent of him as both her psychological well-being and her life reliant from Legosi’s behavior. she feels like she has no power over him which, frankly, isn’t true - just by being herself she bonds Legosi every decision. Much like Gosha, Legosi values his loved ones the most. And Louis just like Yafya values his career over his and Juno’s happiness.
The absolute gold is Haru telling Legosi that she want’s to marry and divorce him right after. And here comes character growth because Legosi doesn’t let her go home but follows her until she tells him what’s going on what she meant. Old Legosi would just sulk but the new one is persistent and decisive. It’s a really great change.
The chapter ends with Haru proposing to Legosi, this time for real. (now come things from chapter 196) And he just freezes which of course makes Haru angry. And then he doesn’t answer but proposes back and her. Haru is both angry and happy. It’s great that they both are aware that they relationship wont be easy and can potentialy end with a tragedy but they still want to be with each other. I really loved the part where she tells Legosi not to crouch and says she wants to keep him hard to reach.
It was also so empowering and brave that at the very last page of the manga Haru and Legosi tell the police that their embrace isn’t predatory but loving because they are dating.
It’s interesting and in character that Legosi doesn’t really see what he’d done as something big despite Louis’ words.
In chapter 196 there is more about the other characters. It was lovely that after Yafya retires he keeps living with his mice and becomes a vigilante. And I love that he keeps in touch with Gosha. It would be very nice if they just started dating. One can only dream. But they were basically hugging at the cover art!
Louis has a lot of success with his company since the very beginning. Louis wife (?) kinda reminded me of Kagami from “Miraculous Ladybug” with saying that ok, she can sometimes go to the museum with Louis despite it not being necessary business-wise. I hope that they’ll have healthy relationship. Louis deserves much more lively and compassionate significant other. :”)
We are also shown former Legosi’s classmates graduating. It’s great that Cherryton Academy once again becomes a place for both carnivores and herbivores to learn together. I wonder if Legosi’ll ever go back to school so he at least has graduated high school.
It’s a bummer that we aren’t told who became the next Beastar(s). I thought it was given that at the end of the manga we’ll get to see Louis and Legosi becoming Beastars together.
