South African house producer Alpheus Digomo is set to release his first EP for Beatcave Records on February 10. He has been making house music for a few years under his N@D moniker and played at more then a few party's in his hometown Pretoria.
We had a little chat with this friendly guy.
How would you describe your sound to anyone unlucky enough not to have heard your music before?
N@D: I simply do music that anyone can relate too. I produce dance music (House music), I can't say what type of style I do of dance but it think I do Afro and Deep house.
Can you tell me where it all started for you? How did you get into production?
N@D: It all started in 2002 as a producer but 1996 that's where my love for dance music ( House Music) started, I met a friend Koketse (I call him Mouse) in 2002, we met at my cousin place where, we started making music since then. We then started a group called GaMoNa records which consists of three friends. since then i never stopped or looked back or considered stopping because of the love and passion i have for the music.
Nowadays i play my own music when i dj, i love the feedback i get from the audience.
Tell me more about your setup.
I have being using ImageLine FL Studio since I started production. I grown to enjoy working with it and find it more user friendly.
Which producers inspire you?
N@D: My friends Koketso(Mouse) and Floyd(Gagu) I do music with this guys they really influenced my style and type of House music i do. But in general any good Deep house producer.
How long does it take you to make a tune, over in 10 minutes or are you forever tweaking?
N@D: I am a forever tweaking as trying to find the right sound for my music.
How's the music/party scene in Pretoria? Are there famous clubs, nights, bars. Whats the dominant sound?
N@D: Yes we have famous places in Pretoria. The actualy call Pretoria the capital of house music. People really enjoy it. House music is more favored but the people love any good music they can hear.
Can you name a few of those famous places? What places do we need to visit when we're in Pretoria?
House 22 in Sunnside Pretoria
How do you feel the area has affected you and your music?
(I believe your music has a different sound and vibe opposed to most European house music. More groove less climax for example)
N@D: as a Dj, i play house music and being booked and playing amongst top dj and producers has really affected my style. I have also learned a lot from deejaying as I get to interact with the crowd and see the respons to the music I make or play out.
I don't think the geographic area affects me that much due to I simply make music that people can relate to, we all have our own different type of music we love and Im glad that the respons i get or see when my music is played is people loving it.
N@D - The Connection EP drops on February 10 and features three original tunes and two remixes.
