Here’s the 2017 Beatfox Species Style Guide! A big thank you to Mortis for working so hard on all of these!
Beatfoxes are a species native to the Luxon Cluster in southeastern Morbit and often appear in our works-- but they are also an open species! We encourage anyone that feels inspired to create a beatfox character to do so, and to share them with us! We always love seeing the wonderful things that our friends and fans create. ♥
Also, feel free to think of this style guide as a loose overview of possibilities rather than any hard and fast rules. Cosmetic surgery and natural variations/mutations occur with great frequency on Morbit, so there are generally very few aesthetic standards to adhere to.

Species Name: Beatfox, often shortened to “Box” (plural: Beatfoxes, Boxes)
Height Range: 4′0′’~6′0′’ (121.92 cm ~ 182.88 cm)
Markings/Coloration: Typically darker markings around the paws and ears, and lighter markings around the tail, chest, and backside. Beatfox pelts come in virtually any colour.
Lifespan: ~100 years
Physiology: Beatfoxes are digitigrade canine bipeds with a variety of coat types and distinct dark eyes. Their ears are false-- the actual organ being small holes nearby. These false ears are mainly used for expression/communication. It’s theorized that a beatfox can sense music and sound more acutely than any other known species.
Variations: There are five major coat variations that beatfoxes are known to posses: short-haired, long-haired, wire-haired, fluffy, and soup (slime-based.) That being said, it’s not unknown for there to be further mutations and variations to occur when beatfoxes of differing coat-types have offspring with one another.
Short-haired: These beatfoxes have short, sleek coats of fur and are recognizable by their rounded features.
Long-haired: These beatfoxes have thick coats of fur and sharp, pointed claws.
Wire-haired: These beatfoxes have spiky, wiry coats of fur and are recognizable by their sharp, angular features.
Fluffy: These beatfoxes have fluffy fur, with tiny tufts all over its body and are recognizable by their soft features and often stubby tails and ears.
Soup (slime-based): These beatfoxes are slime-based and are commonly referred to as a “soup”. Soups are perhaps the most physiologically distinct of the beatfox variations, as they are entirely comprised of a wet, slime-like substance inside and out and lack a skeleton entirely.
Soups are born as amorphous blobs, incapable of keeping a bipedal shape and thus necessitating the use of bucket-like carrying containers for their young (this characteristic has resulted in Soup children sometimes being referred to as “Puddles”.)
As soups get older, they become more capable of maintaining a more solid form; but they also gradually lose moisture and become more stiff as they age.
Culture: Native to the Luxon Cluster of islands in southeastern Morbit, beatfoxes are mainly artisans and craftspeople, with the majority of their schooling done through apprenticeships. Beatfoxes form close-knit chosen families, focusing on finding one’s identity as well as safety.
