That filthy corner of my mind where the lights flicker and the rats scurry through the shadows and cobwebs. We’ve been there. Some, more so than others. . . Then there are those monsters. Those who have been in this gloomy sanctuary for so long, they’ve become it. They’ve become lonely and crave company. Actively striving to bring others down into the lair, they’ll kick, they’ll scream, hurling baseless insults and blows. Bruising me black and blue until eventually, I look around and see nothing except wickedness in the cold shade. Moorea Masa urges otherwise. Meanwhile, Kacie Swierk’s airy, buoyant vocals fill and catch the gears that get this full-featured machine of a song moving. “When the Strong One Cries” is a call to finding diamonds in the dirt and letting the elements do their job while I stay my own course.
