RING THAT BELL ELLEN! Ellen “rang the bell” tonight! 10 years ago we were given the news that she had breast cancer and our whole world fell apart. After 10 years of treatments emotional ups and downs, Ellen fought her way back from the lows of cancer. Beatson Cancer Charity

Beatson Cancer Charity has always been praised very highly for its work with helping people with cancer. The nurses are always very nice, the volunteers are friendly, and the grounds are bright and cheery. There's a lovely garden for patients and their visitors to go and look at and several nice café's. However, the ward my mum is staying in isn't very great. She has to share it with 3 other women all having chemo and to be honest, they all look close to death. The room smells very strongly of medications, hand sanitiser, and dry pee. The nurses, while very friendly, are useless when it comes to getting my mum's meds on time. She has told them hundreds of times that she needs to take a certain pill every hour and they keep telling her they'll give it to her every 3. She is only in the hospital because it is getting hard for me to take care of her in her quickly deteriorating form and I had to get up 4 times the other night to help her go to the toilet or deal with extreme pain. The whole point of her being hospitalised is to manage her pain properly, give us all a break(my aunts and cousins all help out), and let her rest properly, but sharing a room gives her no privacy and the ladies around her are all very poorly. I'm quite surprised at the service they have given us because I am normally very complimentary of Beatson, but this is just horrible. We are looking into a hospice elsewhere because this is not enough for her and for the rest of us.

I recently lost my very good friend Conor to cancer, so myself and a few others are all shaving our heads in his memory. All the money will be going to the Beatson Cancer Charity, who were incredibly helpful, kind and compassionate during Conor’s 2 year fight with the diease.
