" You mentioned you would be away from Clyvedon to visit your family, but..." now he was worried, " I didn't hear you say you would be taking care of Augie too in London. Which left me to think about two things my dear : first, wouldn't you like our son to meet his aunts and uncles and spend time with them and second, while I'm perfectly capable of taking care of my son with our governess, I'm sure Lady Danbury will curse behind my back... "

He should've known that the relative quiet that had been their patrol would be broken by something like that. Demon activity had been low and everything had been going well. Or at least seemingly well. Though that might have had something to do with Alec and his constant meetings with those in the downworld. If they could keep everyone content and not wanting to attack each other they might be able to keep their world from falling apart. But this? This would definitely need more than the two of them and Jace knew it. He might've been able to handle it with Alec given just how long they'd been fighting. But with Clary? He wanted to make sure they weren't going to get overwhelmed and she wouldn't end up getting hurt. "Think you're up to this or you want to send a message for backup."

lewis did not despise gentlemen’s clubs quite as much as he despised balls and parties, but he certainly was not fond of them. if the latter were often stressful and uncomfortable, the former were simply dull. there were only so many games of chess and backgammon that lewis could stomach without finding himself bored out of his mind. for the past half hour, he had sequestered himself away in a back corner of the room, preferring the company of a book to the insufferable company of any of the lords and earls throughout the club. within the past few minutes, however, he had begun to grow acutely aware of a set of eyes on him; when the sensation finally became too irksome to ignore, he raised his eyes to squint up at the smiling gentleman watching him.
