The truth shall set you free. A cliche for sure, because it’s true. I have been thinking a lot about that lately. Maybe because I’ve OD’d on Dexter...I don’t know. The greatest gift may in fact lie in the simplicity of that statement. Of course, I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but as the sunset of another birthday passes, there’s always that period of reflecting in the shadow of another year gone by. Here’s a truth, I mostly cannot stand to reveal myself other than in words strung together in a song...left open for a stranger’s interpretation. Recently someone asked me about a song I had written that he felt was surely about my father, who passed away in my teenage years. It wasn’t. But then again, it was. I went back in my head and re-examined the words that he interpreted one way, and I realized a truth...that maybe I was hiding behind the veil of my own words, speaking of another person’s pain, to deal with my own.
