July 13, 2019 - Beaverhead 100k is a point to point race from Bannock Pass to Salmon, Idaho and It. Was. Hard. Also elevation is no joke. . Starting at 7,500 feet above sea level , we immediately climbed to 9,000 feet by mile 5 and averaged 8500' for the remainder of the race. A 4am start (and 2:30am race morning alarm - yuck), rain, thunderstorms, endless boulder fields, shear cliffs, high meadows, burnt out ash covered forests, new growth forests, a steep-steep descent, almost entirely along the Continental Divide Trail, cramping (shocking for me I know) in all the right places, nausea, oxygen deprived sleepiness, 10,000' high point, amazing ridge lines, beautiful vistas as far as you can see, a rainbow to make me forget all the pain of the previous 15 hours, and my now annual Western States qualifier (5 years worth of tickets for next year.) (Yay.) This race had it all and then some. . Happy to have started it. Even happier to have finished it. And thank goodness because the thought of having to go back to run it again if I didn’t finish seems daunting. Would highly recommend if you enjoy and appreciate thankless volunteers, aid stations that have everything you could possibly want (including oxygen!), endless views for days, and a race director who puts on an amazing seriously challenging top notch race. Beaverhead Endurance Runs deserves all 13 out of 10 stars! . Vert: 11,250 feet. (FYI, vert is real.) Time: 18:05. (Felt like forever though) Black toenails: 1.5 (I’ll lose them) Boulder field: 4.5 miles (Uh yeah.) Slowest mile pace: 41:06 (Mile 51) Sitting on a log waiting for cramps to subside: 28 (Probably more, I lost count.) Smiles: All day long (except when I wasn’t.) . @beaverheadrun . . #Beaverhead100k #Salmon #ID #Idaho #UpperLeftUSA #100k #BannockPass #LemhiPass #ContinentalDivideTrail #ElevationIsNoJoke #LuckyBib13 #TT50 #Trailto50 (at Salmon, Idaho) https://www.instagram.com/p/B0YixzZnID6/?igshid=sy900v5d92g9
