Crying because I never noticed Klaus' reaction to Caroline throwing the bracelet he gave until I saw the gifset you made for Klaroline/Rolisla. He literally looked like it hurt him bad. :'(
Really! I LOVE THAT MOMENT! Because it was also such a contrast with how smug Klaus looked when he asked her when they danced why she wore his bracelet and then in the end homegirl threw it at his face. And I was like RESPECT THE QUEEN! I mean come on! “a princess almost as beautiful as you”...Here you have Klaus that is so sure of himself and he thinks that it would be so easy to get a teenage baby vamp to fall at his feet with a few lines and some flattering gazes but Caroline was the unmovable object and then unstoppable force here and that is enough to earn anyone’s respect...even Klaus at the moment he said the princess line and Caroline gave him the eyeroll he almost burst out laughing and flinched and internally facepalmed at how Caroline was not buying at his shit lines and he was like a teen boy lost in his first flirting gone wrong lol...and the princess here has no pink in her blood! She only has red and she OWNS HIS ASS!...I love it Erica!
And we could get that only by a few reactions and Joseph Morgan and Candice King really did a wonderful job in that scene. And the writing supported them too.
The moment where Caroline throws the bracelet and Klaus reacts as if it physically hurt had me on the edge of my seat.
I was fangirling so hard with that and he looked so devastated! Morgan always did a great job with his expressions and his reaction timing with Candice. They just clicked on the screen. It is a matter of chemistry really. Either you have it or not. They were always perfectly synced in their back and forth and they were never over the top. I mean with the material they were getting it would be easy to come off sappy or too loud or over the top dramatic or cringy and yet there was a balance there and both of the actors were bringing the best in each others performance wise and what made it even better was that this was also happening in the characterization too.
The characters were bringing the best on the other character and vice versa by helping the other character grow in a challenging way. And when I say grow I do not been that Klaus or Caroline were becoming better by becoming more pure or redeemed or the best version of a morality paradigm. Hell no. And especially in the vampire genre that would be a big no. But what was happening is that the individually and compared together the characters were bringing more layers and development to the other character simply by interacting and as a result a progress to the ship itself with light and dark elements intertwined and the actors made it look so effortless and simple and this was happening even by their facial reactions that could go unnoticed in the fraction of a second. Like the way you did not notice it at first here. This is a natural result. Not over dramatic. Not over the top. It is constant and it very rare to actually see it on the screen.
And that scene was gold actually. Klaus at first wants to charm her and he thought that a few cheesy lines, some dimples and his usual charm will be enough for her to drop her panties and Caroline is rolling eyes every left and right and when things get more honest and personal you can see that Klaus is about to snap at her but as she faces him without backing off or cowering before him you can see in his expression how he changes from anger to pride and looks at her as if she is a revelation. Then add to that his reaction to how she throws the bracelet and his reactions at her leaving. The scene is very small but if you start dissecting it very carefully you can see so many facial expressions that are subtle and direct and it is all in the eyes mostly. It makes the audience unable to look elsewhere really and to keep counting the feels that keep on coming!
There is only one word for it. Magic.
