Gage was raised by his grandpa because his mom died during childbirth, and his dad (Teds son) was killed during a fight. His name was Beck Grant, and he had the Wildcat mantle at the time, and he was busting Black Mask for some crime. But Roman managed to get the upper hand and killed him, and since they were on the docks he kicked him into the water, and he was missing for a couple days until he washed up on shore. When the cops saw his face was cut off they obviously knew it was Black Mask who killed him, and Gage hates the Sionis’ with a burning passion and intends to get his own revenge. He’s thought about and sort of fantasized about killing someone Roman loved, but he’s a hero, he couldn’t ever bring himself to do that
