Today we went to the Drach Caves in Mallorca Spain! (The Dragon Caves) and saw the stalagmites and stalactites. They are 11 million years old and we couldn’t believe our eyes how magical it was inside. Stalactites grow down from the cave ceiling, while stalagmites grow up from the cave floor. (They are icicle-shaped deposits that form when water dissolves overlying limestone then re-deposits calcium carbonate along the ceilings or floors of underlying caves.) When they get really big it looks like dragons are hanging from the walls. (But that’s just my theory) Every one hundred years they grow one centimetre! It’s really mind blowing. The caves conceal a large underground turquoise clear lake called, Lake Martel. It’s regarded as one of the biggest underground lakes in the world. During our visit, some row boats came in to the caves playing classical music and it was such a dreamy experience. We then got to go on the row boat and experience the caves in the water. What a day… I felt like khalessi!
