One of the most tedious, boring Adult Things™ in my whole life is trying to find new duvet cover sets and new bedding in general. I have extremely specific needs, because if my bedding is not exactly right, I will sweat and itch and get no fucking sleep, thus defeating the entire object of being in my bed at all, and naturally, these extremely specific needs align perfectly with the most expensive shit possible. I hate it. I fucking hate it. It is so fucking difficult to find things that meet my stupid sweat-prevention specifications that are also a) within my very limited budget and b) nice to look at.
Because first of all, there can be absolutely no polyester, because polyester makes me fucking sweat, and that goes for the duvet/comforter itself, which has to be feather and down and not microfibre, as well as the cover AND the pillows and pillowcases. So already this shit is going to be expensive, because cheap options are all polyester and polyester blends.
There is none of this, for example, on the guest bed at my mother’s house, and I can’t sleep in that fucking bed for all the overheating and sweating I’m doing. I have to peel myself off the mattress in the morning and I will feel like shit for having had no fucking sleep. I might save a few pennies by going in for cheap shit, but it’ll be pointless because I’ll just sweat and die all night and if I’m going to do that, I might as well not go to bed in the first place.
So we’re at 100% cotton, and it can’t be sateen, because that shits me up as well, and the thread count has to be at least 200 or the sheets just won’t be durable enough to last as long as I need them to and they’ll be itchy and nasty and I won’t enjoy them. 300+ is preferable! I still have some very cheap sheets that I bought before I understood any of this, which I endeavour to never use if I can possibly help it, and while they looked good enough in the packaging when I saw them in the shop and bought them for about £15, they’re only 144 TC and they’re fucking dreadful. You can almost see through them. Awful. Never again.
All this, just so that I don’t sweat my fucking gooch off when I’m trying to sleep.
Protips for anyone just learning this stuff: Good quality bedding is dense enough that it will feel cold when you get into it. Cotton is breathable and eco friendly in that it won’t flush plastic microfibres into the water system every time you wash it like synthetics do. A feather duvet/comforter is a little bit noisy if you aren’t used to having one but it’s likewise very breathable whilst also being heavy enough that it wraps around you nicely while you sleep. Sheets with a decent thread count (TC) will last longer and feel nicer. 200 is fine but 300-400 is great; more than that and you’ll see diminishing returns for the expense.
You spend a hell of a lot of time in your bed and good sleep is important. Do it properly.
there is something equally but oppositely satisfying about sliding under the blankets of a meticulously made bed and feeling the comforting and even distribution of the blanket weight vs burrowing under a nest of messy blankets with stuffed animals and pillows goddamn everywhere like the goblin u are
(Sorry I wasn’t on today. It’s been a long day with family and preparing for graduation. Probably won’t get replies done until tomorrow evening at the earliest. I’m really fucking exhausted but on the plus side, I’m graduating with a 3.8 GPA, which means I’m graduating with honors.)

We bought a new fancy comforter and it feels like how pizza tastes. Pure, unadulterated bliss.

People ask: 'What are your plans after highschool?'
My reply: 'Buying new, soft, fluffy bed covers, pillows and sheets so I can be comfortable for my week-long hibernation.'
