Reyna ran as fast as she could through the castle corridors, hair and skirts blowing out behind her, tears streaming down her face. She couldn’t begin to imagine how she looked or what people were thinking off her as she flew past them but she couldn’t bring herself to care. She could feel eyes burning into her as she went and she wanted to yell at them but the only noises she could make were choked sobs.
The morning had been lovely. She’d been granted a day to herself away from her duties and away from her aunt. She’d taken her horse and rode through the nearby forest, mindful of the potential Saxon danger and not straying too far from the city walls. She knew she probably should’ve stayed close by in case she was suddenly needed but she found that she just didn’t care. She’d gotten back to find the Baroness in a furious temper, something about an important friend visiting and she needed all of her ladies and where was Reyna. Something inside the girl snapped and she finally let loose everything she’d been holding back since she’d arrived. It had ended with the Baroness standing in pale shock and Reyna taking off into the castle, tears of frustration and anger spilling from her eyes.
The weather had turned in the afternoon and it was cold and windy outside. People in the gardens were quickly retreating inside which was perfect for Reyna. She didn’t care about the weather and she needed air but she didn’t want a gaggle of people watching her as she wept. As luck would have it, the gardens were empty when she ran out into them. She slowed to an unsteady walk and finally collapsed onto a nearby bench, taking deep breaths to try and calm herself
