not really looking at anything
just doing it
Kayleigh is beside her
also scrolling
also not really paying attention to anything on her screen
just there
same space
different feeds
the room is quiet in that comfortable way
no pressure to talk
just existing
KK shifts slightly
shoulder brushing Kayleigh’s arm
Kayleigh doesn’t move away
just adjusts a little closer without thinking about it
KK glances over for a second
then back to her phone
Kayleigh sighs softly
not dramatic
just tired in a cozy way
“…you’re ignoring me”
KK hums without looking up
“…I’m literally right here”
Kayleigh turns her head slightly
“…you’re mentally not”
that makes KK smile a little
still not looking at her
“…I’m multitasking”
Kayleigh scoffs quietly
then goes back to her phone for like three seconds
before stopping
just staring at the screen
not actually seeing it
then she puts it down
KK notices immediately
doesn’t say anything yet
just lowers her phone a little too
Kayleigh shifts again
smaller this time
closer
“…KK”
KK finally looks at her
“…what”
Kayleigh hesitates for half a second
then softly
“…can you just… come here”
KK blinks once
“…I am here”
Kayleigh rolls her eyes slightly
but there’s no frustration in it
just softness
“…you know what I mean”
KK pauses
then sets her phone down fully
turns slightly
and opens her arms a little
not saying anything yet
Kayleigh moves instantly
like she’s been waiting for permission she didn’t want to ask for twice
she curls into KK’s side
head against her chest
KK adjusts immediately
arm sliding around her waist like it was always supposed to be there
no hesitation
just natural
Kayleigh exhales quietly
“…better”
KK hums
one hand brushing lightly up her back
“…you’re clingy”
Kayleigh doesn’t even deny it
just mumbles into her shirt
“…yeah”
KK laughs softly
then tilts her head down a little
looking at her
“…you’re actually so cute when you do that”
Kayleigh lifts her head slightly
“…do what”
KK smiles
small
fond
“…that. like you act all tough and then you just come over here like you need me”
Kayleigh’s face warms a little
she hides it by burying her face again
“…shut up”
KK laughs again
quieter this time
then presses a light kiss to the top of her head without thinking too hard about it
Kayleigh goes still for a second
then relaxes again
even closer this time
KK’s hand moves slowly up and down her back
lazy
steady
“…you good like this?” KK asks softly
Kayleigh nods against her
“…don’t move”
KK smiles
“…wasn’t planning on it”
they stay like that
phones forgotten on the bed somewhere
screen light fading into nothing
just breathing
just warmth
just them
and KK still occasionally whispering little things like
“…you’re actually so soft it’s annoying”
and Kayleigh pretending she’s not smiling
but staying anyway.
